CAROLYN GREENFIELD, Licensed Midwife
Hi! I’m Carolyn. It is my passion to provide affirming midwifery care in the comfort of your own home throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.
I live with my husband and 3 of my 4 children in Somers, CT. After my 4th child was born at home with a Midwife I then felt the calling to enter the field of birth work. Since 2008, I have been helping couples have the kind of natural birth that I had with my 4 children. I started my path to Midwifery as a Bradley Method Childbirth Educator and then went on to complete a year long program with WomanCraft Midwifery in Amherst, MA. In 2016 I traveled to Better Birth University in Salt Lake City Utah where I took a 7 day advanced skills workshop. In 2017 I traveled to Houston Texas where I worked and studied at two high volume birth centers for a year and a half. After completion I obtained my CPM credential from the North American Registry of Midwives. I then applied for and was granted my Vermont Midwife License in 2022. I am Neonatal Resuscitation, Basic Life Support and Phlebotomy certified. To further advance my skills and training I am currently taking advances courses towards my RN degree and hope to eventually earn my CNM.

HOMEBIRTH MIDWIFERY CARE
PREGNANCY
We follow the Midwifery model of care at joyful homebirth. Prior to your baby’s birth, you will have prenatal visits, lasting approximately one hour, either in your home or at my Rocky Hill office location. The schedule of visits is monthly until 28 weeks, bi-weekly to 36 weeks. Then the home visit. Weekly visits till birth.
BIRTH
During your birth, you'll enjoy absolute freedom to move around in labor, relish immediate skin-to-skin and undisturbed bonding time, and have delayed cord clamping. If you are interested in having a water birth, I can provide an inflatable birth tub.
POSTPARTUM
We will have several visits postpartum First, I will call you 24 hours after to ensure that you’re settling in well. Then, we will meet in your home after 2-3 days, and at 2 and 6 weeks postpartum. My birth team and I are committed to your care, from your pregnancy until the end of your postpartum period.
If you are looking for a birth setting that uses minimal interventions, allows you to move freely, and be comfortable in your surroundings, a home birth is the right choice for you. A home birth offers a unique opportunity for obstetric care that is truly family-centered and collaborative. You are the expert in your own body and baby. We recognize your extraordinary power and honor your instincts. Together, we can create your best birth experience.
Where your home birth journey begins...
CHILDBIRTH CLASSES
FATHERS AT THE BIRTH
This dad was able to participate in the birth of his child. Here he is cutting the cord. Fathers are very important and should be allowed to even "catch" there own baby. Many do.
It is equally important to have the siblings nearby as it "normalizes" home birth.
BREASTFEEDING COUNSELING
Breastfeeding is natural, but it doesn’t always come naturally in the beginning. If you are struggling with latch, engorgement, or simply need more support, we can help. To help new moms with breastfeeding we provide the services of a local lactation counselor, Sarah Silamianos, RN, IBLCLC Sarah will do in person or zoom consultations and has been providing Breastfeeding zoom classes for all Joyful Home Birth LLC new moms.

HOMEBIRTH MIDWIFE
""Carolyn is truly amazing! Her role in my son's birth was too special for words. She provided my husband and I with a wealth of valuable knowledge during every one of my prenatal appointments. Not only did she actively listen to my husband and I's needs, but she strived to educate us on each of our birthing choices. By the time I went into labor I felt so empowered and ready to give birth to my baby. My son was delivered at home in the birth pool, with Carolyn guiding me and supporting me along the way. She brought her knowledge, skill, and care into the birth space. She knew just when to step in and when to sit back and let me labor. My baby needed to get himself into an easier position for birth, and Carolyn worked tirelessly to encourage him to move. By the end of it, I had given birth to a healthy 8.9 lb baby boy with no tearing! I had the most unforgettable birthing experience, greatly due to Carolyn's presence being a part of it. My husband and I are forever grateful to have had such an incredible midwife.""

"I'm so blessed I was able to transfer into your care at 28 wks. You always made it a point to listen to my wants, needs, fears and concerns and I felt so heard with you as my Provider. I was able to have the birth I had dreamed of at home under my own terms. Thank you for being so considerate and caring during our time together. I will always look at you as a friend and special person in my life, not only my Midwife".

Carolyn made our birth experience so safe and wonderful. The fear and reality of ignored complications, negligence, trauma and prejudice of black women during labor and delivery in hospitals is an experience hard to overlook/undergo. That wasn't an option for me. Our family sought safety, autonomy, understanding and a birthing relationship with a Midwife who would see me and my partner and where our rights and voice were respected. Joyful Home Birth provided that! It is undeniable that Carolyn cares about Midwifery, women, and the well-being of babies. Every baby I birth will land in Carolyn's hands!

"During the throes of a natural, non-medicated labor, Carolyn’s calming, supportive presence made all the difference in creating a wonderful, miraculous first-time birthing experience. She helped me tremendously with her compassionate support, spoken affirmations and Bradley Method breathing guidance. My daughter nor I had any complications and I went home three hours later; I attribute a lot of that to Carolyn’s coaching in trusting and empowering the birthing process."

Carolyn is an excellent Midwife who takes precautions and gets you prepared for birth. She helped me get my levels up when they were completely down. I was in trouble of not being able to give birth at home because of my anemia. She even bought things for me that she didn't have to. My husband was able to ask questions and there were many conversations, booklets and pamphlets for him so he could be prepared for the birth of our baby. The birth team was absolutely excellent. They really tended to my needs and were with me all night long. It felt so comfortable, like a family just waiting for baby to come. Carolyn was so funny and an absolute joy. I will miss her being my Midwife dearly.
