Homebirth Midwifery

Hi! I’m Carolyn. It is my passion to provide affirming midwifery care in the comfort of your own home throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.

I live with my husband and 3 of my 4 children in Somers, CT. After my 4th child was born at home, with a Certified Professional Midwife  I then felt the calling to enter the field of birth work. Since 2008, I have been helping couples have the kind of natural birth that I had with my 4 children. I started my path to Midwifery as a Bradley Method Childbirth Educator. I then went on to complete a year long program with WomanCraft in Amherst, MA, along with a 7 day advanced skills Midwifery workshop. This career path landed me  in Houston Texas where I completed the NARM requirements. I worked in two high volume birth centers for a year and a half as an Apprentice Midwife. I obtained my CPM credential from the North American Registry of Midwives. I have attended well over 90 out of hospital births and have been working in the birth community for 11 years.

We follow the Midwifery model of care at joyful homebirth. Prior to your baby’s birth, you will have prenatal visits, lasting approximately one hour, either in your home or at my Rocky Hill office location.

During your birth, you'll enjoy absolute freedom to move around in labor, relish immediate skin-to-skin and undisturbed bonding time, and have delayed cord clamping. If you are interested in having a water birth, I can provide an inflatable birth tub.

We will have several visits postpartum First, I will call you 24 hours after to ensure that you’re settling in well. Then, we will meet in your home after 2-3 days, and at 2 and 6 weeks postpartum. My birth team and I are committed to your care, from your pregnancy until the end of your postpartum period.

If you are looking for a birth setting that uses minimal interventions, allows you to move freely, and be comfortable in your surroundings, a home birth is the right choice for you. A home birth offers a unique opportunity for obstetric care that is truly family-centered and collaborative. You are the expert in your own body and baby. We recognize your extraordinary power and honor your instincts. Together, we can create your best birth experience.

Where your home birth journey begins...

Childbirth is an experience that one remembers forever. As such, it makes sense to prepare for it with a class that will nurture, guide, and educate you. Studies show that this preparation can help childbirth to be less painful. We achieve this by teaching you coping skills that will empower you to have the birth you desire, including an unmedicated one.

We create customized childbirth classes that incorporate the Bradley method, along with other resources to help you make the best decisions for you family. We include tools and techniques like birthing balls, rebozos, acupressure, and abdominal breathing.

This dad was able to participate in the birth of his child. Here he is cutting the cord. Fathers are very important and should be allowed to even "catch" there own baby. Many do.

It is equally important to have the siblings nearby as it "normalizes" home birth.

Breastfeeding is natural, but it doesn’t always come naturally in the beginning. If you are struggling with latch, engorgement, or simply need more support, I am here to help you and your precious baby start a beautiful nursing relationship.

""Carolyn is truly amazing! Her role in my son's birth was too special for words. She provided my husband and I with a wealth of valuable knowledge during every one of my prenatal appointments. Not only did she actively listen to my husband and I's needs, but she strived to educate us on each of our birthing choices. By the time I went into labor I felt so empowered and ready to give birth to my baby. My son was delivered at home in the birth pool, with Carolyn guiding me and supporting me along the way. She brought her knowledge, skill, and care into the birth space. She knew just when to step in and when to sit back and let me labor. My baby needed to get himself into an easier position for birth, and Carolyn worked tirelessly to encourage him to move. By the end of it, I had given birth to a healthy 8.9 lb baby boy with no tearing! I had the most unforgettable birthing experience, greatly due to Carolyn's presence being a part of it. My husband and I are forever grateful to have had such an incredible midwife.""

"During the throes of a natural, non-medicated labor, Carolyn’s calming, supportive presence made all the difference in creating a wonderful, miraculous first-time birthing experience. She helped me tremendously with her compassionate support, spoken affirmations and Bradley Method breathing guidance. My daughter nor I had any complications and I went home three hours later; I attribute a lot of that to Carolyn’s coaching in trusting and empowering the birthing process."
